The Makings of a great tablescape

A tablescape doesn’t have to be overwhelming and we bet you already have most of the parts you need around the house! Ideally, you want to have a layered look that’s visually interesting and reflects your style or the season in which you’re hosting. Odds and ends, personal momentos, dishware passed down through generations are all fantastic touches.

A Cozy Classic Table

In our Boston Victorian, we have a beautiful, formal dining room that we love. However, we know that sometimes a dining room can feel a little too stuffy or serious. With the right tablescape, you can make a dining room look more casual and lived in (if that’s what you’re going for)! Don’t get us wrong, we love the character that comes with the details of a formal dining room - especially when you include those precious inherited family items - but we also like to keep it fresh!

A classic table usually includes traditional seasonal colors, layered linens, chargers, and tableware made from high quality material with great detail.

A Whimsy Modern table

We built the modern tablescape with clean lines and a mix of neutrals and fun accent colors in mind. Modern tablescapes also look toward more simple and less cluttered decor. So, change out the greenery garlands for a slimmer profile beaded/ornament garland, and include some geometric vases or candlestick holders. We especially liked this set of funky, matte flatware.

Space saving, but make it chic

Just because you’re short on space, doesn’t mean you have to skimp on style. We know the holiday hosting can be overwhelming to people who don’t have a dedicated dining room or dining table, but Wayfair has so many space-saving solutions. This is the perfect setup for Friendsgiving in your apartment or anyone who wants to be able to fold it all up, and have their space back at the end of the night (ok, more likely the next day). When pulling this tabelscape together, our goal was for it all to be able to fit into a storage box until next year, or things that could be stacked, folded and tucked away easily.

At the end of the day, hosting your friends and family is all about making meaningful memories together. What will be most memorable, will be the way everyone felt when they were there together in your space… and maybe how amazing the food was!
